Today we welcomed Emma to the classroom. The children were thrilled she was finally here in the flesh! Since they were the "old timers" around here, they showed her the toys and art supplies. I am very proud of them.

We had our first fire drill today which went well. We practiced as a class so we were ready when the real deal went off. On our way down near the Little Woods, where the classes stand, we happen to see a baby turtle. Each year a female turtle buries her eggs in our playground mulch and sometime in the fall we see baby turtles making their way to the creek. This one choose to appear just as 130 children exited the buildings. Carissa, our Development Director, picked it up and delivered it safely to the outside of the fence. Who knew a fire drill could be overshadowed by a 2 inch turtle?

Today we had musical fun in the classroom. I got out our bean bags so we could balance them and dance to "the Bean Bag Dance" by Greg and Steve. Naturally we had to do it twice. Next we used my ribbon sticks to make large arm motions to the song "The World is a Rainbow". It's a beautiful song that lends itself to slow motions that keep the colorful ribbons in the air longer.

During Yoga today, Logan taught the class the Airplane Pose. They were so excited! If you do Yoga, please feel free to show your child a pose they can share with the class. It's always more fun to learn from a classmate than a teacher.

The first week of school is always hard on children (and adults) and I could tell some of our children were tired today. Don't be surprised if they are hard to rouse tomorrow morning. It is typical but their bodies will adjust by the end of next week, Really!
