In spite of the cold temperatures the zoo trip was a success. The Red Panda spurred quite a bit of discussion. The more familiar black and white panda was the only panda in existence in the children's minds and several were sure I was tricking them - even after I read the info sign to them.
The trip ended with the all the children singing :The Zoo Song".
I have already post pictures on Facebook and will post them here as soon as the load onto Picasa.
If you have stopped by our room lately you probably noticed some fine looking, bushy plants in peat pots. I plucked some small branches one morning recently and we potted them. We tend to take our boxwoods for granted but they sell for enough money that C.S. has a potential gold mine on their hands. We used a little rooting dust (or root magic to the children) and potting soil and so far they are thriving. We'll know in about a month if any roots have formed. Perhaps we'll have a few to sell at the Strawberry Festival!
I do need your updates on your child's progress on the Lorax Project. Please send your info by e-mail as soon as possible. It ends next Thursday (the 27th) and it would be much appreciated if the money came in with final tallies.
While at my Early Childhood Educators conference last month I signed up for e-mail information from a company that designs outdoor play spaces for children. While I saw their natural material play equipment, I didn't know their specialty was designing play areas using plants, rocks, trees and wood. They even sponsor as annual 1 day conference for schools with green play spaces in Northern Virginia. How did I miss this???? It turns out we are more on board with progressive educators than I realized!
