We have had a very busy week looking at squares, circles, the letter K and having winter stories and art.  I know the temperature belies the calendar date but we don't let small issues, like the lack of snow,  bother our winter fun.

First we looked at the definition of a square and what separates it from the rectangles of this world.  After measuring some seemingly square shapes we discovered many rectangles try to disguise themselves as squares.  Our trusty rulers were able to distinguish between them.  Next we found we could do a little "magic" and turn squares into rectangles and rectangles into squares.  We finished the magic by making a snowman picture using only magical squares and circles.  Hats off to my little friends who were able to think through the challenge.

The letter K is an underrated letter.  Usually C gets all the attention by sounding like K.  This group was determined to continue hearing /k/ words until they had a reasonably long list of K words.  It's a good thing they know Kiki, Keri, Kay and Keegan.

Our room has once again been rearranged to accommodate a pet shop and a new kitchen donated by Alora's family.  We have eliminated some of our empty floor space but now have more room for manipulatives and playing space.   We will begin doing Yoga with our buddies in Kim H.'s class on Mondays.  Louise has graciously opened up the Drama room for our use so we no longer need the same floor space as before.  I can't wait to spread or wings (or arms and legs) a little more freely!

Speaking of Drama... the February plays are scheduled with our class performing Tuesday the 19th at 10:30.   We will have a dress rehearsal on the 12th also at 10:30.  I got to watch an early rehearsal of our play and I must say we have a room full of comedic actors.  It will be worth coming to see.

Conferences are coming up on January 22.   For the early Learner level this is the optional conferences because we try to send all their Holiday work home to decorate your homes.  This leaves us very little to have your child show you.  We try to keep this conference open for any concerns, on your or my part.  You will find a form in your child's folder today to indicate whether you desire a conference.  I have already indicated my thoughts on the paper but I am always open to meeting with families.  Please return these forms as soon as possible so we can make any scheduling changes parents might need.
