Let me start off my blog with a big "Thank you!" to all the families that sent in toys and stocking items for less fortunate children. I had hoped to fill 2 stockings but by the time everything came in, we filled 4 stockings and supplemented another! Your generosity is a wonderful lesson for your children and I can tell you they were thrilled to have exceeded our goal.
Speaking of generosity, our school is collecting nonperishable food for the Salvation Army. For every 5 items delivered to the school, the Middle school students will add 1 cup to our fence. Let me challenge everyone to fill the fence so others can eat. I am going to bring food in honor of my sister who supported food banks in the Virginia Beach area while alive. Perhaps there is someone in your life you would like to honor in this way.
This week will be a crazy holiday fun-filled week with no letter or color study. The children have already finished their ornaments for the Glebe and are finishing making cards. They have been making paper chains and stringing beads and lighting menorah candles. Tomorrow they will make cinnamon ornaments from cinnamon, applesauce and glue. Surely you will hear comments about the messy art.
Our class will participate in another service project tomorrow with their buddies in Keri's class. Keri has been sewing shopping bags from empty dog, cat and bird bags to sell Friday night at the Angels of Assisi booth at Dickens of a Christmas. Our classes will bake doggy treats to be sold at the same booth to help raise funds for this very worthy organization.
Whew, I'm tired just thinking about all this activity! And I didn't tell you about their surprise decoration. Oh... I guess I can't.
Here are a few reminders:
Friday is Pajama Day so let your child wear their favorite night clothes and bring a special sleep friend. We have a funny movie planned to make the day extra special.
Monday is our field trip to the Glebe. We will use the school bus and vehicles so if you want to tag along, here's your chance to see some great fun and make some lonely people very happy. Just write me a note or send an e-mail.
Tuesday is our last day of school before Winter Break.
