The creative juices are flowing in this room as we read more Eric Carle books and discuss the many ways to create new colors. We have used cool googles with color filters to change natural sunlight into a rainbow of colors, stacked tissue paper and splattered paint on beautiful spoged flower pictures. It has become a challenge for the children to mix colors and require me to know the name of the new color. I too am creative - about color names. An Eric Carle unit lends itself to focusing on science and art so while we play with colors we have also planted tomato, green bean, marigold, sunflower and maple tree seeds. If the weather will settle down we should soon be able to see growth! Our Painted Lady catepillars have also arrived and we are awaiting the first signs of life from them. The heat was turned down rather low in my room this weekend which isn't good for them so we may have to order a new, live batch. Tomorrow will be an exciting day for the Early Learners. We travel to the United Methodist Nursing Home to sing to the elderly residents. This is a great community service for a group that is so appreciative of the children's efforts and love to visit with them afterwards. Only three children need to leave their car seats at school (Evalyn, Kris and Sylvana). We'll leave here at 9:15 and return about 11:00 so half-dayers need not worry. check with your child tomorrow afternoon and see which song the residents liked best.
