I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. My little friends seemed to be very happy to be back with each other and asked for play time together first thing this morning. How do you say no to that?

After a bit of social time we got down to the business of the morning calendar. We have so much happening in December with the book fair, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and three birthdays in our room, that I had to do a quick run through of the coming month.

A new letter was introduced today. I had prepared the bag before my trip to Colorado and had completely forgotten which letter was in the bag. I was almost as excited as the children to look inside for clues!

We found a flamingo (pink of course), a fox , french fries, a feather, a frog a flower stamp, flip flops and a fire truck. They knew it was F almost immediately even though /f/ is often difficult for some children to pronounce. We were discussing when an uppercase F should be used when in walked Freddy. You gotta love a live example! After finding a few F words of our own we moved on to finishing our "Fall" books (and yes, we noticed that F word too).

The children were finishing their books when we heard a distinctive beeping sound. Sylvana walked to the window and saw it first - a big truck with Clifford the Red Dog on its side. I was beside myself with joy for I knew this was the BOOK FAIR TRUCK!!! I delivered the news to confused faces. Somehow I remained calm as I told them the books had come to our campus rather than doing book orders this month. I can hardly wait for them - and you - to walk through the Art and Spanish rooms where they can actually touch the books of their desires. What a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Next Wednesday (Dec. 7) grandparents and parents are welcome to join us for pizza, hear the reading of a class favorite book and then peruse the Book Fair with or without your child.

We will begin discussing Hanukkah Wednesday and then move to Christmas and Kwanzaa. We'll talk about the reason for each holiday, traditional foods, songs and games. If you celebrate any/all of these holidays and have a family tradition, please e-mail me (ruthann@communityschool.net) or write it in your child's notebook so we can add it to our discussion.

While in Colorado I saw two new crafts we'll be using during this season so please expect paint, glitter and glue to be part of your child's coming home wardrobe this month. If you feel a need to revisit your childhood, please drop in and dip your hands into some craft treasures. Holiday crafts are too much fun to let only children enjoy making them. I promise not to tell your co-workers.
