Take your vitamin C and Zinc because the flu season is hitting with a vengeance! In typical Community School style we juggle quite well so our class had Katlyn's class with us Monday and Tuesday. When you are the younger grouping on campus it's good to have a chance to be the "older" children. This group took Katlyn's class under wing and enjoyed every minute.

This week we have focused on finishing our dragon puppets from the Chinese New Year and beginning our Valentine fun. We are making lacy butterfly cards and putting hearts together to make bugs and fish. We even did a graph of the colors of Conversation Hearts. You may have already known that pink is the most prevalent color in the package but did you know yellow follows a close second?

The letter for this week is V. Betcha didn't see that one coming did you? Although V doesn't have as many words the children know as other letters, they still found 13 words rather quickly including vine and volcano. The one they didn't find was vacation.

Since they are in the middle of making Valentine cards and pictures, I made them a poster of commonly used words during this holiday. Chelsea also wrote these on large cards for them to trace and practice writing.

Friday will be a special day for our class and Katlyn's. We will join our buddies in Kim and Betsy's classes for 5 Valentine art activities. We have (hopefully) planned activities easy enough to be finished in a timely manner but difficult enough to need a buddy's assistance. They will also look pretty darn good.

I have been de-germing our room with Lysol and Clorox spray after school. Our level didn't have any additional "sickies" today so maybe we are over the worst of the flu. Here's to seeing everyone back at school soon!

It may seem too soon with this frigid weather but it really it time to start signing up for Strawberry Festival volunteer hours. For all things strawberry go to www.strawberryfestcs.blogspot.com and view the available times and opportunities. I personally love working the festival and baking while others enjoy berry cleaning and serving on committees. Whatever delights you, please check out the site and make your plans now!
