The Chinese New Year is a 15 day celebration culminating in the Dragon Parade on the final day. Since the celebration is based on the lunar calendar, the last day changes yearly. This year it is on Feb. 3 which is a Thursday so we'll be preparing for our own Dragon Parade. Today we read a book about a young child's first new year celebration in which she is a participant. Since Andy will be in China during the new year festivities, we will take pictures of our class celebrating the holiday and e-mail them to Andy. It will feel as though we are together.
This was Andy's last day of school so we bid him farewell with a little party. Katlyn's class and Karen were invited to join us for cookies and play time. Katlyn's class made cards for him to read later and we had recorded books for him to listen to while away.
Just as Andy was leaving with his mother the children (and I) gave him our final hugs. I wasn't surprised by their genuine affection for him but I was so very proud of the way they rejoiced with him before his exciting journey. You know they understand the meaning of caring for others when they can put another's joy before their own sadness.

a bubble stomp and parade family and cameras are
welcome
Monday, Feb. 14 Valentine's Day Our class will exchange valentines with Katlyn's and
have fun activities with our buddy classes. Please do not buy ready made valentines! We would like to show the children how to make their own and put a little more
of themselves into their cards. It is also Emma's birthday and we'll have a fun treat her parents will help us make.
