Can you remember the last time we had snow on the ground for over two weeks? The children don't seem to mind at all and have become very creative playing in the frozen sandbox and chipping at ice covered snow. The younger children haven't attempted to slide or sled yet but I am sorely tempted.
Today we reviewed our new letter A and both of its sounds. We then reviewed the word "at" and the words we could make by adding a letter in front of "at". Mrs. Walsh, the Speech Therapist happened to be in our room at the time and I noticed she was carefully watching the children. She later commented that those who were not actually saying the words out loud seemed to be completely enthralled. I'm hoping this means they are soaking in the concept.
Tuesday means Music, Drama and Spanish which they always love. When I ask about Music, they sing a song. When I ask about Drama they tell they become different things. When I ask about Spanish they tell the colors of their Skittles. I know they're learning more than this but like you, getting the information can be difficult sometimes. You will get FYI's in February outlining everything they've covered since the last conference.
At this level we offer the February conference as an option. Most of your child's work since the last conference has come home in the form of several holiday crafts. This doesn't mean we aren't continuing to learn and take notes about children but it does mean our samples are very limited. Everyone will receive an option paper for this conference but if I feel we need to conference I will make a note on your child's paper. If you desire a conference, check the appropriate space, sign and return the form. If you do not feel a need for a conference then still check the appropriate space, sign and return the form. If a matter of concern comes up between sending back your form and Conference day, just call me and let me know.
