Although we had only one Enrichment class today, somehow the day flew! Since we were hardly in the room yesterday, we spent some time getting to know the toys and manipulatives available in our room. The Art shelf was a huge hit and almost everyone took some time to "create".
After fruit break we got to do a "first" here at Community School. The entire Early Learner level went to Kim for a special music session. Wednesdays will be the day she will work mainly on singing and I will occasionally assist her by playing the piano. I'm not sure who was more excited today; the children or Kim. They all were laughing and having a great time.
We had about 30 minutes more in the room to explore the toys before recess. I have explained to the children that we will soon begin to assess their skills - we call it showing what you know- so you will probably hear about them playing in the room quite a bit in the next two weeks. We really try to discover each child's accomplishments and needs and work from these points. Tulie and I will compare notes to see if we need to make groups (we often do) and we can also use our campus Literacy Specialist, Autumn.
We are doing some yoga positions to relax our bodies before rest time and I am already amazed at what the children remember from yesterday. Several children obviously are familiar with yoga and go straight to positions when I use the position's name. We said "hello" to the sun today with Sun Salutations, made strong mountains and did up, down and three-legged dog. Of course we had to bark just a little! I bet your child would love to show you these tonight.
